Fable isn't merely a bookstore; it's a haven for those who crave knowledge and exploration. In the world of Fable, books are more than just objects; they are infinite universes controlled by the power of letters. These letters are not just symbols, but the very essence of Fable's identity. This profound respect for the written word is evident in Fable's corporate style, which is rooted in simplicity, minimalism, and a deep engagement with our primary senses-touch and sight. Fable pays homage to the tangible and visual experiences that books provide, bringing to life the intimate connection between the reader and the written word.

Challenge

In today's digital world, where screens are ubiquitous in our daily lives, Fable experienced a unique challenge in  trying to capture the essence of traditional reading in its visual identity and communication strategies. The brand needed to stand out in a highly competitive market, not just as another bookstore, but as a symbol of the tangible, sensory experience of reading. The challenge was to create a brand identity that conveyed Fable's core values of simplicity and sensory engagement while also appealing to a modern audience that craves authentic experiences beyond the digital realm.

Solution

Our design team at Sketchy Digital rose to the occasion with an innovative approach that honors the tactile and visual sensations of reading. By integrating embossing and cutting techniques into Fable's branding materials, we created a multi-sensory brand experience that invites interaction and exploration. This tactile element of the design, combined with a minimalist aesthetic, allows the beauty and simplicity of the written word to shine through.

Logotype

Spelled separately

The bookstore's logo is a simple and minimalistic design that emphasizes the importance of its letters. The spacing between them highlights each letter's individual significance. Additionally, the store's name directly references the diverse genres available for purchase.

Colors

Bold hues

The brand's colors are both subdued and striking, owing to the contrast between them. The color gray symbolizes paper, a blank canvas upon which ideas can be expressed. Meanwhile, dark gray represents the ink that gives life to writing and printing. The hue pink embodies dreams and lightness, whereas crimson connotes the qualities of inspiration, perseverance, and passion.

Typography

Precise lettering

We opted for the brand font based on its simplicity and uniqueness. Arimo was the perfect choice as it embodies both of these qualities. We utilize two variations of this font, rendering an additional font unnecessary.

Stationery & Merch

Fully immerse

As mentioned earlier, the brand's fundamental values are centered around the senses of touch and sight. To achieve this, we frequently employ die-cutting techniques, creating apertures that allow you to see everything. Similarly, we use embossing to add texture and volume that can be felt, further enhancing the sensory experience.

Books with history

We curated our limited edition cover collection with classic literature. The covers are bright and minimalistic, and you can easily remove them to enjoy the texture of the book.
